For the Japanese Vocab Maker subtitle definitions browser plugin. Last updated 26 August 2026.

In one paragraph. While you watch, the plugin sends the subtitle line currently on screen to this website so it can look up the words in it. That is the only thing it sends. The line is turned into definitions and discarded, never written to a database or a file. There is no account, no tracking, no advertising, and nothing is sold or shared with anyone.

What the plugin sends

What it does not collect

Using Google's own categories, the plugin does not collect any of these: personally identifiable information, health information, financial and payment information, authentication information, personal communications, location, web history, or user activity.

Specifically, it never reads your cookies, never touches your Netflix or YouTube account, never sends the title you are watching, and never records your viewing history. It cannot see any browser tab other than the streaming sites it supports.

Limited Use

Use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In plain terms:

Data is used only to provide the single feature described above, showing Japanese definitions for the subtitle on screen.
Data is not transferred to anyone else, except as needed to provide that feature.
Data is not used or transferred for advertising, and no advertising or analytics service is contacted.
Data is not sold, and is not shared with data brokers or information resellers.
No human reads your subtitle text. It is processed automatically and discarded.

Where it is sent

Only to www.japanesevocabmaker.com, over HTTPS. No third party receives anything. The plugin can only reach that one address, which is enforced by the browser through the permissions it requests.

Settings

Your preferences, such as text size and where the definitions appear, are stored by the browser using its own sync storage. They stay in your Google account and are never sent to this website.

Children

The plugin is not directed to children, and no data is knowingly collected from anyone under 13.

Changes

If what the plugin collects ever changes, this page will be updated and the plugin will say so before the change takes effect.
